A Generous Heart
Sunday September 9th
Paul Weston brought us a very timely and challenging message this Sunday all about having ‘a generous heart’ and what that means. God invented giving so he could bless us as He cares about us unfathomably. Paul read from Matthew 7:1-2 and Luke 6:37-38, which are widely misunderstood passages. A lot of people think they are talking about money but money is never mentioned. Giving is about our heart attitude. Where our treasure is our heart will be. God is after everything about us – not just our money. What we sew we will reap so why are we surprised that if we yell at our kids, they yell back at us?
Paul went on to give us four suggestions on how we can have a generous heart and referred to Deuteronomy and in particular chapter 15. He reminded us that we need to let things go and that fractured relationships can be healed. God wants to speak a jubilee over us and free us. God doesn’t need our money He wants our hearts. Giving is created for our sakes as giving works out selfishness and greed. We need to have grateful hearts and remember that God rescued us from Egypt, we are no longer slaves, we are redeemed so we need to be generous. Jesus has released us from bondage! What fantastic news! If you are hungry to hear more the whole talk is available by clicking here.
New Prayer Event
Our leaders have endorsed a suggestion that we meet at 3.45pm on our Sundays at church halls to get some information, instruction and pray together for the church, our mission and the region. We would love you all to join us, including the children. Refreshments will also be served before and after the meeting to allow us time to fellowship together so do feel free to come along early and join us.
Next Sunday 16th September
There is no meeting at church halls as we will be meeting in our Engage@home Groups.
Many of you will know Barbara Moore, who was a valued member of the Engage congregation and used to attend regularly until around 18 months ago when she became too ill. Barbara’s family notified us that she died last week. The funeral will be on the 1st October at 12.30pm at Randall’s Park Cemetry, Leatherhead, KT22 0AG and afterwards 1,30pm at Arkie Manor Pub, Dorking, RH3 7HB. Please let Cathy Noble know if you are going so she can pass on numbers of those wishing to attend to the family.
